According to a report published on 7 April, One of the top Social media messaging apps in China, WeChat is joining the trial of the country’s Central Bank Digital Currency project ‘digital yuan’ or Digital RMB.
The news of WeChat’s integration with digital currency was buzzing in the market from early 2022. But the recent announcement made it crystal clear that WeChat is also helping the country to expand its digital currency.
WeChat’s adoption of digital Yuan will enable its consumers to make digital Yuan payments. Currently, the social media app holds over one billion strong user bases. The integration of digital yuan on their app can help to enlarge their user base.
WeChat’s payment page, its wallet, and other portals developed an interface to make payments in digital RMB. Also, users can create WeBank (WeChat Pay) digital RMB wallet by downloading the “Digital RMB APP”
Recently, the People Bank of China (PBOC) declared the addition of 11 more cities to the list of their pilot project for the digital Yuan.
China is putting efforts into numerous ways to grow the reach of its digital currency among the netizens. During Winter Olympics 2022, the country has also trialed its digital currency. However, there are not many details found on how successful the trial was.
While China is continuously promoting its digital currency program, Chinese regulatory authorities are making more and more tough ways for other digital assets by announcing crackdowns. Chinese states pretend to build their separate legacy into a decentralized world, which clearly shows their hypocritic standover in the emerging crypto space.
