Much like every other gaming studio, Sega has hinted at integrating NFTs and cloud gaming into its video games.
The “Super Game” initiative which was announced by Sega last year, will be a cumulation of several games, some of which include NFTs and cloud gaming, instead of a single game.
Sega producer Masayoshi Kikuchi has said, “Gaming has a history of expansion through the connection of various cultures and technologies”.
He continued, “It is a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFT. We are also developing SuperGame from the perspective of how far different games can be connected to each other.”
Several Sega executives revealed more details about the Super Game initiative in an interview with Sega Japan’s recruitment website.
“Several titles are being developed within the framework of Super Game, and while each title will vary, there is no doubt that they will be interactive titles that go beyond the traditional framework of games” said executive VP Shuji Utsumi.
The executives have said that the games which will be included under the Super Games banner must be multi-platform and have scope for global multi-language development. The game must also be capable of a simultaneous worldwide release and hold AAA titles.
“We are thinking of creating new entertainment within these possibilities” said Shuji.
Various gaming studios are exploring the NFT space, despite facing severe backlash from fans. The developer of PUBG, Krafton has locked deals with Naver Z, Seoul Auction Blue, and XBYBLUE to create NFTs and metaverse experiences. Gaming Giant Ubisoft has introduced playable and energy-efficient NFTs referred to as “Digits” into its games, starting with Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
