On April 9, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT-theme based restaurant named Bored & Hungry was inaugurated in California. Interestingly, the restaurant became the first restaurant to accept crypto payments in Ethereum (ETH) and APE coins.
As per the resources, the restaurant was opened by food entrepreneur Andy Nguyen, who is also known for his exciting food concepts. In March, he spent $267,000 to acquire Bored Ape #6184 and two Mutant Apes. As per the acquisition terms, he received access to the intellectual property rights of the apes.
Nguyen’s purpose behind this pop-up restaurant opening is to contribute to the emerging Web 3.0 community and make people aware of the Web 3 and NFT space.
“Our job is to educate the public about this new future world. And show people that you can create a brand/business out of this IP. Taking away the stigma of, ‘It’s just a jpeg.’,” added Nguyen.
As per the reliable source, Seo and Nguyen expect that the curiosity and enthusiasm around NFTs can help the restaurant compete with international franchises such as McDonald’s, located on the same street.
However, McDonald’s is already in this booming space with extra efforts. Recently, leaked documents revealed McDonald’s Plan for a restaurant in Metaverse.
Bored & Hungry restaurant will be open for 90 days, in collaboration with Houston rapper Bun B’s Trill Burgers and SoCal vegan fast-food concept Beleaf Burgers.
Also, the restaurant will provide free meals to Bored Ape NFT holders and free burgers to Mutant NFT holders after verifying their NFTs via token gating.
Nguyen’s love for NFTs seems endless as he and his team are collectively working to launch the Food Fighters Universe (FFU) NFT collection in May 2022. This will make them the first NFT backed restaurant group.
The collection claims to overcome the problems through web 3.0 currently faced by the food and beverage industry.
