Renowned former NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly sold his first ever non-fungible token (NFT), “Dreams Out of this World” on OpenSea to help the war-torn Ukraine and its people.
The NFT was dropped on 12th April on International Day of Human Space Flight and will raise money to support Ukrainian victims by donating 100% of net proceeds of NFTs to the Global Empowerment Mission.
Developed by studio Orange Comet, the collection includes 3,333 unique (1 of 1 generative) “postcards from space” and is owned by 1.7k owners. Over $500,000.00 has been raised today from the collection.
At the time of writing, the floor price of the collection is 0.068 ETH with a trading volume of 359 ETH.
Astronaut Scott Kelly believes that just like space travel, the metaverse is not accessible to the masses at present.
He further added, “In addition to rekindling interest in space, I am most honored to be able to assist the people of Ukraine during their time of crisis by donating 100% of net proceeds from the initial sale to the Global Empowerment Mission.”
With this NFT collection, he hopes to inspire those who participate in the auction and also uplift those who are going through the darkest time in human history.
Astronaut Kelly has orbited Earth more than 8,300 times and has even traveled over 200 million miles. He has both flown over or traveled to many parts of the planet, thus, exploring the unknown!
A veteran of NASA’s Year in Space Mission, Scott was also the former record holder for the longest space flight. His enthusiasm for the NFT space comes from viewing NFTs as the starting point of the metaverse. In a parallel instance, ten rare photographs of astronaut Kalpana Chawla were dropped recently as NFTs as part of International Women’s Day 2022.
