One of the world’s largest airlines, Emirates is planning to expand into the Metaverse and the NFT markets. The company has announced that it will build signature brand experiences in the metaverse and release NFTs.
The NFTs will be both collectibles and utility-based. The development of these projects has already started and the drop can be expected in a few months.
”Emirates has always embraced advanced technologies to improve our business processes, enhance our customer offering, and enrich our employees’ skills and experiences”, said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates airline and Group.
The company also announced that its Emirates Pavilion at the Expo 2020 site will be turned into a center for innovation. It will be used to work on future projects of the airline, including those focused on metaverse, NFTs and Web3.
“It is fitting that our future-themed Emirates Pavilion at Expo is being repurposed as a hub to develop cutting-edge future experiences aligned with the UAE’s vision for the digital economy”, continued Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
The airline continues to recruit talent to work on its project.
Emirates has always been a pioneer of adopting the latest technology. It was the first airline to launch its own VR app on the Oculus stores last year.
Last month, the Australian airline Qantas also announced that it is dropping a series of NFTs in mid 2022. The aviation industry hasn’t shown much interest in NFTs and the metaverse, however it seems all of that might change soon.
