The president of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Ybarra, slams the door on NFTs as he reveals that the firm is not foraying into the sector with play-to-earn games.
This comes days after news broke of a Blizzard poll conducted in partnership with data analytics firm YouGov. The survey was conducted to determine the level of interest in the cryptocurrency world among the company’s player base.
One component of the survey, however, asked if users were interested in play-to-earn cryptocurrency games and NFTs.
Ybarra tweeted, “No one is doing NFTs,” in response to video game journalist Andy Robinson’s tweet sharing the news on the survey.
Several twitter users applauded Ybarra for opting out of the play-to-earn NFT games. Others questioned why the survey was conducted in the first place if the corporation has no desire to participate in NFT games.
Activision Blizzard, the parent company of Blizzard Entertainment, is in the process of being acquired by Microsoft in a $68.7B deal that is scheduled to close next year. So Ybarra’s remarks appear to be ironic about NFT inclusion in Blizzard games, as the bigger picture still allows for a different interpretation.
