The tech giant, Meta is coming into the retail market with its physical Meta Store. The store will be a staggering 1,550 sq. feet located at the company’s Burlingame campus in California and will be open for sales from May 9.
Customers will be able to experience the metaverse using new technology such as the Quest 2 VR headset and Portal video calling device, as well as smart glasses created in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Meta expects that its stores will highlight its items and aim to persuade people to believe in its concept of the “metaverse”.
The Ray-Ban glasses can record and post short videos or Stories, the Portal video-chat device enhances the video calling to make it more enjoyable. The Quest 2 VR will take the gaming and virtual reality experience to a better and more interactive level.
Customers will be able to buy from the store and even from Meta’s online shop. However, the glasses will have to be purchased online only.
The store will be open from Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM PT. It’s located at 322 Airport Blvd in Burlingame, California.
“The best way to understand virtual reality is to experience it,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement. “At the new Meta Store, anyone can demo popular apps on Quest 2 and project what you’re experiencing onto a big wall for your friends to see.”
Demonstrations of the new hardware will draw attention to the company’s goal of promoting metaverse. Facebook previously marketed its products through third-party retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and others, but this will be the first time the firm sells them directly. This new retail strategy has been in the works for years.
Meta is taking noteworthy measures to promote Metaverse as it also launched a monetization feature in its Metaverse, ‘Horizon World’. This along with other steps is ensuring that Metaverse is promoted immensely.
