The NFL draft NFTs launched today on its own platform, with 52 NFT collectibles dedicated to each team. Each NFT depicts a playing card and costs $52.
Unlike past NFL NFT drops, the 2022 draft-themed NFTs were created on the Flow blockchain rather than the Polygon blockchain.
The 2022 NFL draft is scheduled from April 28-30, and the league is marking the occasion with the launch of a new NFT collection, which offers collectibles inspired by each of the league’s 32 teams.
Interestingly, the NFTs will also be given out to the members of this year’s “Inner Circle” club, which includes fans selected to represent each team on draft night.
Each NFT is dubbed a ‘virtual commemorative ticket’ for the upcoming NFL draft, but it’s not an actual access pass to the live event in Las Vegas. Instead, the NFL makes some of its virtual ticket NFTs available for purchase by the wider public.
According to a representative of the league, it has given out over 500,000 NFTs tied to ticket purchases since the marketplace’s release. Out of those 500,000, around 210,000 directly interacted with their owner, which shows an overwhelming engagement.
Sam Rubinroit, the NFL’s director of club business development said that these are just the ones we gave out for free, having these many engagement numbers was pretty impressive. Also, a good number of the NFTs were sold out within 24 hours of their release.
It’s not the first time that the NFL has dabbled in the crypto space. Earlier this month, fan token platform Socio partnered with 13 NFL teams. The deal will bring in market-specific rewards for fans of each franchise, focusing on fan engagement efforts and marketing activations.
