Two of Asia’s biggest hotel groups, Millennium Hotel and Resorts and Regal Hotels Group have stepped into the Metaverse by building virtual lands in Decentraland and Sandbox’s metaverse.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts is a hospitality brand of City Development owned by Singaporean billionaire Kwek Leng Beng. The Regal Hotels Group is owned by the billionaire Lo family.
Both hotel groups have bought virtual properties on Decentraland and Sandbox’s metaverse.
Millennium Hotels and Resorts announced on Wednesday that they will be opening a hotel in blockchain gaming platform Decentraland’s metaverse where users will be permitted to build, purchase and trade in-game assets while engaging with other players as well.
The virtual hotel is named ‘M Social Decentraland’ and it will focus on becoming “a place for all to gather and discover the virtual reality universe” in Decentraland.
The firm is planning to open the hotel by May and visitors will be enabled to communicate via avatars which will assist them through the building and even provide them chances to win “real world hotel surprises”.
“We hope to redefine hospitality through M Social Decentraland by creating online adventures that integrate with real life events” said Kwek, executive chairman of City Developments.
Millennium Hotels said that it will look for opportunities to collaborate in the metaverse platform. It will also attempt to tie its virtual hotel around real-world events like Valentine’s Day and New Year’s.
Simultaneously the Regal Hotel Group announced on Monday that they are building “a green city” on the blockchain gaming platform Sandbox.
The Lo family owned hotel group has named the virtual city ‘MetaGreen’ and it aims to “encourage eco-friendly choices and develop a sustainable society to support a circular economy” as stated by Regal Hotels. Building of a convention center will also be done wherein conferences on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues will take place.
Opening in October, MetaGreen will also have a shopping mall in partnership with Hang Seng Bank and other retail brands, an art gallery, an eco-farm, and an academy that will promote sustainability in association with a Hong Kong university.
As The Crypto Times reported before, Sandbox was to start the land sale of Mega City 2 on 28th of April. Many prominent players in the industries of hospitality, culture, media, tourism, education, banking, investment, music, and entertainment were taking part and Regal Hotels Group was one of them.
