The American singing competition television series, American Idol has filed for trademark applications for multimedia authenticated by NFTs.
The applications were filed on April 25 for multimedia, games, videos, text, audio, music, rewards, artwork, and other digital collectibles relating to a talent competition series (American Idol) authenticated by NFTs.
The applications have been filed by Simon Cowell’s production company, Syco with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The announcement was tweeted by trademark lawyer Michael Kondoudis.
The television series is currently in its 20th season, which premiered on February 27. For this season, American Idol dropped contest-based digital trading cards as NFTs. The NFTs were launched on ThetaDrop.
For the season’s finale winner, collectors with NFTs of the winner will receive an exclusive Winner’s Ticket to Hollywood NFT. This Hollywood NFT can be redeemed for a physical ticket to NFT which will be delivered to their homes.
Pop culture stepping into the metaverse has fans excited for many upcoming projects. Fan favorite, Billie Eilish has also filed a pair of trademark applications: one for her name and one for the Blohsh logo.
Many television series and Netflix shows have entered the NFT realm to stay connected with their fans. Netflix series, Stranger Things will launch NFTs in partnership with NFT platform Candy Digital, ahead of its Season 4 installment.
