The American film and entertainment company, Marvel Studios has announced the drop of a Doctor Strange based collectible. The drop intends to promote the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, releasing worldwide on May 6.
The NFT drop, in partnership with VeVe, will feature the Marvel comic Strange Tales #111.
The comic will be fully readable and features the first appearance of Baron Mordo aka Doctor Strange. The NFT drop will be available in 5 cover rarities.
The various rarities and the number of editions dropping are:
- COMMON – Classic Cover : 21,000
- UNCOMMON – Vintage Variant : 5,000
- RARE – Hero Variant: 2,350
- ULTRA RARE – Vibranium Variant: 1,050
- SECRET RARE – True Believer Variant: 600
The release will also feature VeVe’s Exclusive Rare and Ultra Rare covers. These covers are designed by Ron Lim and Israel Silva.
Thus a total of 30,000 editions of the comic will be dropped, each listed at a price of $6.99.
The drop will be conducted in a blind box manner format, like all other Marvel NFT drops.
The drop will take place on May 2 at 8 am PT. The collection will be available on VeVe’s app globally.
Marvel also warns collectors that at the time of high traffic, such as the drop, the rarity of the NFT will be revealed only after the delivery.
As with every other Marvel drop, the reselling of any Marvel collectible will be charged a 6% licensor fee. VeVe will also impose a 2.5% secondary market fee.
This is the second Doctor Strange NFT drop to take place within a week. The first drop featured Doctor Strange’s ‘The Eye of Agamotto’. The Eye of Agamotto holds the time stone and allows the owner to control the flow of time.
Marvel has figured out a way to capitalize on the NFT craze. The Studio drops digital collectibles from time to time of its famous characters and comics.
