The world famous Italian professional football league, Serie A is all set to enter the Metaverse in order to provide a new way for audiences to watch soccer.
The league leaders AC Milan’s clash with Fiorentina will take place on Sunday at the popular San Siro stadium. It will be the first soccer match ever to be broadcasted where fans in Africa and Middle East will be able to watch from the “Serie A room in the Metaverse”.
The league also suggested that this is just the beginning of a partnership with Blockchain technology firm ConsenSys and video gaming platform The Nemesis, as they step into the fast-changing digital world.
During the match users will be able to interact and engage with others present in the in-game room.
“We have chosen to be the first to broadcast a football match in the Metaverse because we believe that the frontier of technological innovation is extremely important for a modern league such as Serie A,” Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo stated.
According to the management, the Middle East and North Africa represent a strategic area for the league due to the dominant presence of Gen Z and their particular acceptance to new developments.
The collaboration between football and Web3 is proving to be trailblazing, like AC Milan had announced its first ever official NFT project, in collaboration with Fansea and BitMex. Also a few days ago the sports entertainment company OneFootball closed $300 Million in a funding round led by Liberty City Ventures.
