The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy gave a speech which inspired the creation of Freedom Squares NFT to help Ukraine.
After Kharkiv’s Freedom Square was bombed by Russian forces, president Zelenskyy gave a speech saying “Every square today, no matter what it’s called, is going to be called Freedom Square, in every city of our country.”
Freedom Squares is an Ethereum NFT project focused on collecting funds for relief organizations that are continuously working on the ground in and around Ukraine to provide help.
Freedom Squares has partnered up with Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, and also Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen.
The Freedom Squares base NFT collection includes 6,468 NFTs which are based on mapped data from 1,617 total City Squares throughout Ukraine. The NFTs highlight parks, memorials, and monuments. The base collection will drop later this month and will sell each NFT for approximately 0.1 ETH (around $295).
Anyone who will collect all four versions of a single square will be airdropped an exclusive fifth “Guardian” version; however, the deadline is unannounced. Moreover, Freedom Squares will also be selling 100 animated, special edition NFTs priced at 1 ETH each ($2,950).
Freedom Squares is also going to conduct auctions for a pair of two complete NFT sets based on the original Freedom Square along with Independence Square in Kyiv which will begin on May 10th.
Freedom Squares is aiming to raise at least 755 ETH ($2.2 million) from its first drop and will donate the money to US-based charities helping Ukraine. All the funds generated will prove to be beneficial for CORE and World Central Kitchen’s relief program for Ukraine.
“We’re honored to be partnering with the Freedom Squares team on this initiative that both raises critical funding for the humanitarian work we’re supporting in Ukraine, while also increasing awareness of the actual communities that are under attack,” said CORE’s Ann Lee, in a press release.
Many people are working towards helping Ukraine via cryptocurrency as it can be sent easily. Many relief funds have received donations in crypto. BTC and ETH are the most donated crypto. Many celebrities are donating, and even the creator of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin recently donated $5 Million in ETH to Ukraine.
