Google’s cloud division is forming a new team that will aim to develop the firm’s presence in the Web3 world. The team will mainly work towards building services for developers running blockchain applications.
The team will be led by an ex-executive of Citigroup, James Tromans, a technical director at Google Cloud who was hired by Google in 2019. The Web3 team is going to include Google workers who have been “peripherally involved in Web3 internally and on their own”.
Vice president of Google Cloud, Amit Zavery, sent out an email on Friday to the employees in which he mentioned that the aim of the team is to make Google Cloud Platform the primary preference for developers in the field.
“While the world is still early in its embrace of Web3, it is a market that is already demonstrating tremendous potential with many customers asking us to increase our support for Web3 and Crypto related technologies” the email said.
Google aims to provide back-end services to developers interested in composing their Web3 software and win market share in cloud infrastructure against big names like Alibaba, Amazon and Microsoft.
It is unclear when the new services will launch, however it is clear that the search giant is taking serious measures in order to flourish in Web3. To fulfill its journey steadily into Web3, Google Cloud created a team dedicated to digital assets.
The search giant has hinted at the possibility of eventually allowing customers to purchase cloud services via cryptocurrency. “We’re not trying to be part of that cryptocurrency wave directly. We’re providing technologies for companies to use and take advantage of the distributed nature of Web3 in their current businesses and enterprises” Zaveri said during an interview.
Google Cloud is looking to formulate a system to streamline blockchain data for users to explore while smoothening up the procedure of building and running blockchain nodes for recording and validating transactions. Google is also providing its tools in other computing environments, like Amazon service.
