The operator of the blockchain-based video streaming platform Theta, Theta Labs has partnered with Sony Electronics for 3D NFT collection.
The collection will be specially designed so that it can be displayed on Sony’s Spatial Reality Display (SRD). The SRD allows 3D visuals without the use of any 3D accessories.
The tablet-like device tracks eye movements and pivots the image in sync with the viewer’s head, creating the visual of a solid 3D-like object.
“Immersive, three-dimensional NFTs are a great way to showcase the potential of Sony’s Spatial Reality Display for metaverse enthusiasts and collectors,” said Nick Colsey, Sony’s VP of business development who believes that the NFT drop will allow people to realize the capabilities of the Sony SRD.
The NFT collection will feature only 10 3D Tiki Masks called “The Tiki Guy” NFTs. The owners of NFTs with a U.S. shipping address will also receive a free SRD, otherwise valued at $5000.
While this NFT drop is specifically for 3D viewing, 2D versions of the NFTs will also be dropped.
The 3D NFT collection will be launched on ThetaDrop, the NFT marketplace of Theta Labs. Previously, ThetaDrop launched Katy Perry’s NFT collection titled “The Witness Dice”.
Mitch Liu, the co-founder and CEO of Theta Labs believes that metaverse is already a 3D space and thus, users need to be able to “visualize and showcase their NFTs in a way that has a physical presence”.
