The digital yuan of China will now be accepted on Guangzhou city trams and it can also be used to recharge Xiamen’s city public transport card. The metropolitan cities are joining the flourishing network of cities using digital currency.
Guangzhou local media reported that passengers on the city’s Tram Line 1 will be able to pay for fares with the payment QR code of the digital yuan app.
Similarly, Xiamen city’s public transportation swipe cards can now be reloaded with digital yuan from May 6, Xiamen’s local media said.
Starting May 6 the Xiamen buses and subways accept digital renminbi payments. The passengers will be permitted to use digital renminbi to pay for their rides through the Xiamen Bus and Xiamen Metro apps when they ride buses and subways.
Xiamen is also planning to release convenient features like “digital renminbi password-free payment” and “digital renminbi app to enter the station directly by swiping the gate” to expand their public transport payment methods.
In Guangzhou, the digital RMB payment function was officially introduced on Haizhu Tram Line 1. Passengers can now use the digital RMB payment QR code and scan the code at the ticket gate in order to buy tickets.
China is preparing to make the digital Yuan a go to payment option and the country recently extended the digital Yuan trials to more cities.
