According to the latest reports, China has extended the digital yuan trials to a few selected hospitals in cities like Tianjin, Hangzhou, Guangzhou among others.
Tianjin city has started paying digital yuan as salary to some finance department employees. The Tianjin Municipal Finance Bureau advised government employees to create digital yuan wallets in readiness for the system’s continued expansion.
A few hospitals in Hangzhou and Guangzhou have started accepting digital yuan payments for medical procedures.
The Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has started taking digital yuan payments, making it the first hospital in Hangzhou to do so.
The Huifu branch of the Guangdong People’s Hospital has also begun taking digital yuan, making it the first hospital in the province to do so.
Just a day back it was reported that Xiamen and Guangzhou cities will start accepting digital yuan as payments for buses and trains. Passengers can now use the digital RMB payment QR code and scan the code at the ticket gate in order to buy tickets.
Last month, China extended its digital yuan trials to 11 more cities, so now in total it is being tested in 23 cities following its launch in October 2020. The People of China also announced that both Beijing and Zhangjiakou will become e-CNY’s pilot cities.
