The Queen of Pop Madonna announces the launch of “Mother of Creation” NFT collection which is the outcome of an year-long partnership with digital artist Beeple.
“Mother of Creation” is a series of three digitally created videos in which she is portrayed as a nude woman giving birth to flora, fauna, and technology.
Beeple noted “This is such an absolute, insane honor. I don’t do many collaborations. This is probably the only one I will do for a very long time.”
The very first NFT, “Mother of Nature,” is dedicated to plant life. Madonna’s avatar is seen in the video lying on a laboratory bed, giving birth to a tree that blossoms as soon as it emerges from her body.
The second NFT, named “Mother of Evolution,” is fauna. The avatar is once again shown nude, sitting on a modified vehicle in the middle of a collapsing metropolis, her legs spread open and countless butterflies emerging from her insides.
The third NFT, titled “Mother of Technology,” focuses on technical advancements and depicts Madonna laying in the middle of a forest with a sequence of biomechanical centipedes emerging from her vagina and walking up and down her arms.
Each video was accompanied by poetry, some written by Madonna and others by Rumi, the mystic poet. The triptych ends with the message “that you never know where you are going to find life, and you can never give up hope.”
Madonna stated that the butterflies and centipedes in the video have some significance, “I never want to be provocative just for the sake of provocation. They stand for hope. They stand for technology.”
While Madonna’s NFTs are unusual to say the least, the idea and execution of the animations are very much in line with both artists’ signature styles. The collection will be available on SuperRare starting May 11th at 3pm PST / 6pm EST.
Meanwhile, Madonna hopped onto the NFT bandwagon in March 2022 when she bought her first BAYC NFT #4988.
Madonna added “It’s been an amazing journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art. I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity.”
The sale proceeds will go to three charitable organizations chosen by Madonna and Beeple to help support women and children around the world. Moonpay provided infrastructural assistance for the NFTs, and will also donate $100k to each charity.
The charities are: The Voices of Children Foundation (which aids Ukrainian children), the City of Joy Foundation (which aids Congolese victims of violence), and Black Mama’s Bail Out (which helps incarcerated caregivers).
Beeple is well-versed in the NFT game. The artist rose to prominence thanks to his work “Everydays” .Then, in March 2021, a collage of the first 5000 ‘Everydays’ sold for $69.3 million at a Christie’s auction.
