One of the leading IT companies in India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is in talks with Tata Group companies such as Tanishq, Tata Motors, and Croma to integrate metaverse solutions, according to the senior official.
Tata Group’s subsidiary companies are already in the virtual space. Its ornaments and jewellery arm, Tanishq launched its bridal collection, called the ‘Romance of Polki’ in the metaverse that enables online users to try out bespoke ornaments virtually.
Furthermore, Ashok Maharaj, Head, TCS XR Lab revealed that the company is also developing a metaverse museum for the Tamil Nadu government.
“We are engaged with different companies of the Tata group, including Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tanishq and Croma on immersive solutions and digital twins. We expect to see significant traction on metaverse-related solutions and technologies in the coming months,” Maharaj said in an interview.
In April, Tata Motors subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover revealed its plan to develop a mobility ecosystem inside the metaverse. Apart from this, Tata Tea is also embracing the metaverse for its product launches.
“We have been seeing RFPs (requests for proposal) and clients asking us specifically on how they can implement some of these immersive technologies for training as well as sales and marketing. We are also looking for solutions for the film industry to see if we can actually support them in many of the launches of some of the musicals in the metaverse,” Maharaj said.
TCS’s subsidiary dedicated to virtual reality and augmented reality projects, Avapresence will play a pivotal role in the ongoing metaverse projects with solutions like cloud, blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the metaverse could provide market opportunities of up to $800 billion by 2024.
