Indian telecom company, Reliance Jio has tested a metaverse experience for digital retail using its 5G network. This opens up the possibility of the company offering a metaverse experience on Reliance Retail.
Aayush Bhatnagar, senior vice president of Jio said, “The future of buying is in the metaverse, and 5G opens up new opportunities for eCommerce 4.0. Jio’s 5G technology is best suited for delivering this experience for consumers and merchants.”
Reliance has been working hard to develop the Jio 5G network. A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Jio has integrated 4G VoLTE with 5G Core network to test 5G Voice-over-New Radio (VoNR).
With several other developments being tested over the 5G network, it is no wonder that the company also experimented with the rapidly developing metaverse.
A few months ago, Jio acquired a 25% stake in Two Platforms, a US tech firm. Two Platforms is an artificial reality company whose operations are mainly indulged in interactive and immersive AI experiences.
The collaboration will develop application-based real-time AI voice and video calls, digital humans, immersive spaces, and lifelike gaming, making Reliance one of the first giants of the Indian telecom space to foray into Web3.
