The Japanese tech giant Sony Group reveals that it is ready to play a crucial role in the Metaverse revolution, or immersive virtual worlds.
Kenichiro Yoshida, the CEO, said that Sony is well-positioned to play a leading role in the metaverse space where players like Meta Platforms, Microsoft among others are already betting big on.
Yoshida, while speaking at a corporate strategy meeting, commented that the tech giant is focusing on creating new entertainment experiences in the metaverse space and expects growth in that area.
“The metaverse is at the same time a social space and live network space where games, music, movies and anime intersect,” Yoshida said.
As per the company, experiences throughout the network are evolving into more live ones through technology. Sony plans to leverage the unique strengths given by its diverse businesses and expertise in game technology to create the basis of entertainment experiences going forward in the future. While also building new entertainment experiences for users in the metaverse space.
This isn’t the first time Sony has dipped its toes in the NFT space. However, its collaboration with Theta Labs to create a 3D NFT collection is the company’s first step in realizing its metaverse ambitions.
