The government of Chicago announced ‘The Face Forward Project’, in an effort to promote COVID-19 prevention. The project is aimed at promoting the vaccination of the citizens by minting the portrait of vaccinated teens into non-fungible tokens (NFT).
As per the government release the effort is going to reward young people, basically, teens who have taken the COVID-19 vaccine. Teens are enabled to have their portrait minted upon a one-of-one NFT to store or resell on any secondary marketplace.
The NFT multimedia platform VAST will be giving the NFTs to the teens who choose to participate. The NFTs are inspired by the theme of the Project’s youth anthem, “One of One” and include an excerpt from the Chicago’s Grammy winning musician Keith Harris’ song.
The portraits were taken by one of the most famous Chicago photographers and 2021 Mayor’s Medal of Honor receiver Sandro Miller.
This is the first time that digital collectibles have been used to reward public health initiatives, especially that against the coronavirus pandemic. However, NFTs have been donated by a plethora of people previously.
Recently, the US State offered crypto rewards for green home builders. It is safe to say that the US government knows the potential of web3 and rewarding NFTs, digital assets, and crypto will endorse it more. Further, it will enhance the knowledge of people in order to adopt the budding technology faster.
