The long-anticipated Qatar’s EA Sports FIFA22 e-sports tournament is to be entirely broadcasted in Metaverse, thus becoming MENA’s first tournament to do so.
The tournament will be held at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall in Doha on May 24th, 25th, and 28th. Four talented EA Sports winners will share a total prize pool of 182,000 QAR, around $50k in this metaverse championship.
In the Metaverse broadcast, those who want to support their favorite player will be placed in virtual viewing places where they will be able to watch the games while wearing eSports jerseys and customized avatars.
Fans will also be able to engage with one another, send emoticons, voice chat in virtual chat rooms, take virtual photos, and interact with the games as if they were physically present.
Digital merchandise, online ticketing, and a cutting-edge immersive viewing experience will be available at the tournament, providing attendees a glimpse of how eSports will look in the metaverse.
The event will be broadcasted live on YouTube with commentary in Arabic and English. It will also be aired on Ooredoo TV 0 channel and in VR.
When the free e-ticket is bought, all attendees will receive a free NFT developed exclusively for them by Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land. Fans will be able to meet and greet with the players and influencers as well as enjoy gifts through the NFT.
The tournament will include 12 top EA Sports FIFA22 players, as well as four regional players who qualified through Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land online qualification games.
The Middle-East has been seeing a lot of Metaverse ventures recently. On May 19th, UAE witnessed its first metaverse wedding of French-Paraguayan couple Florian Ughetto and Liz Nunez.
Nasser bin Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani, Chief Commercial Officer at Ooredoo, stated “We are proud and excited to be venturing into the world of Web 3.0 technologies with this latest eSports development, which aligns perfectly with our strategic commitment to investment in innovation.”
The sports industry, especially the football world has evolved into accepting new technologies like NFTs, metaverse instead of disregarding them as a fad. Just two days back, Spanish football league La Liga announced TVM as its official partner in the metaverse. TVM will develop a metaverse of sport called Triverse, which will increase fan interaction and engagement for the sport as well as generate relevant content.
