On Thursday, the crypto wallet Metamask revealed its plans to recover the assets of the victims of crypto scams and phishing attacks.
As per the press release, MetaMask partnered with London-based specialist Asset Reality, to investigate, recover, manage, and recover stolen crypto and complex assets. Asset Reality will act as a case worker and help MetaMask users to build an investigation in case of frauds.
This support will be for global Metamask users including MetaMask’s most active markets in the United States, the UK, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, France, Spain, Germany or Nigeria.
If possible, MetaMask support will ask the users for any relevant information regarding phishing websites, vectors, and funds lost to ascertain how they were compromised.
Users can click the support link within MetaMask and start a conversation with the support team to get themselves through the process.
This decision comes as MetaMask continuously gets requests related to losses. Many of these losses involve malicious actors scheming out a phishing attack or staging social engineering, explained Alex Herman, MetaMask’s support product lead.
Aidan Larkin, CEO of Asset Reality explained that after a MetaMask user makes a report, Asset Reality will carry out an initial probe including some blockchain analytics, which provides the user an overview of what has happened.
The recovery firm will also act as an expert witness if the user wants to be connected with a lawyer or go for a huge step.
In April, Metamask had alerted Apple users regarding possible phishing attacks targeting iCloud.
