The iconic luxury Italian fashion house Prada announces the launch of NFTs along with its limited edition Timecapsule product on the coming June 2nd.
Prada has made the Timecapsule limited edition apparels available for purchase in certain countries since December 2019, and the piece is delivered in a special package right to the purchaser’s home.
The monthly online event, which takes place on the first Thursday of every month, provides an exclusive and super limited edition item available for 24 hours only on Prada’s website.
This time the Timecapsule buyers receive a complimentary airdropped NFT to go along with their physical merch purchase from Prada’s latest collaboration with Cassius Hirst, son of artist Damien Hirst.
The owners of past Timecapsule releases will receive the NFTs at a later date. There will be a total of 100 NFTs along with the 100 gender-neutral shirts available for launch.
The Prada x Cassius Hirst unisex button-down shirts come in black or white, with a GIF of a black or white pill capsule as the NFT. The NFTs will have a number associated with each physical shirt as well as the drop’s serial number.
Prada’s latest NFT release is backed by the Aura Blockchain Consortium. LVMH, Prada, and Cartier formed Aura, a non-profit organization.
Aura employs Quorum which is an Ethereum-based blockchain platform that provides blockchain-as-a-service, ConsenSys Rollups, and other blockchain-related services.
Prada’s choice to include digital assets in Time Capsule can be ascribed in part to the success of its first NFT endeavor in partnership with Adidas. The two of them worked in January to create an NFT comprising 3,000 tiled pics supplied by customers and brand fans.
The fashion brand is also growing its digital footprint with Prada Crypted, a Discord community server set to be launched on June 2nd at 3 PM CEST.
Multiple luxury brands are diving into the crypto, NFT, metaverse worlds so as to gain a new set of audience for their products. Last week, another Italian luxury fashion house, Dolce and Gabbana launched its NFT project ‘DGFamily Glass Box,’ curated and dropped in partnership with the NFT marketplace UNXD.
