Finally, NFTs have reached ‘Bruce Almighty’ as famous actor and comedian Jim Carrey buys his first NFT, ‘Devotion’ on SuperRare. The NFT is created by Ryan Koopmans and Alice Wexell and is described as ‘gently capturing nature’s exquisite and relentless reinvention’ in Carrey’s words.
The NFT is from the collection, The Wild Within and was sold for 20 ETH ($39,535) on May 25.
The NFT is indeed a historic one! The creation of this artwork was inspired from a visit to the Georgian town of Tskaltubo. The town was once a popular health destination renowned for its therapeutic water and luxurious sanatoriums.
However, between the 1940’s to 1980’s the Soviet Union collapsed and the buildings were deserted and fell into disrepair!
Thus, since the early 90’s, these buildings have been slowly dismantled and stripped of their grandiose, leaving empty shells of the glory that was once the essence of classical structures.
Koopmans visited this place over several years, and explored the ruins and captured them into beautiful photographs. Later, he collaborated with another artist Alice Wexell and together they digitally added vegetation.
Moreover, they modified the lighting and structure, added sound by Erik Thome, and animated the landscapes to rejuvenate the empty spaces, bringing life back to the rooms.
The website describes the NFTs as a ‘surreal collision between the past and future, as well as the physical and digital worlds’.
In April, Jim Carrey hinted at retiring from Hollywood to explore a career in NFTs and the NFT space and we are looking forward to Eternal Sunshine!!
