The South Korean software developer Hancom and native social media service Cyworld Z are going to roll out Cytown, the metaverse, the local news reported. Cyworld Z not too long ago acquired the inexperienced mild from Google to release a cellular app on Google’s Play Store.
South Korea has been making an uproar in the digital world. The government has been investigating the Terra fiasco over the last couple of weeks. Amid this chaos, several metaverse projects have been coming into the market.
The announcement of Cytown follows the news of South Korea’s CyWorld resurfacing in a Web3 avatar. Cytown, the metaverse, is currently being developed as per local news.
Even though South Korea has many metaverse-related projects lined up, Cytown has taken the center stage after it gained approval from Google.
Cytown will entail an interactive social platform in 3D. This project would be regenerating Cyworld Z, a social media platform launched during April. Cytown will include its own economy. This economy will be controlled by Cyworld’s own cryptocurrency dubbed Dotori.
Cyworld was immensely popular in the South Korean market in the mid-2000s. It had a user base of around 32 million making it a household name. Anyhow, the arrival of Facebook as well as Twitter stopped the rise of this platform. But now, it aims to make a comeback by stepping into the digital verse.
Even though Cytown has managed to garner the support of Google it is still waiting for an approval from Apple.
