The NFT nerds go ‘Alrighty then!’ as famous actor-comedian-artist Jim Carrey revealed his first NFT artwork “Sunshower”, exclusively on SuperRare, the NFT marketplace for curated artworks.
“Sunshower” was revealed yesterday. The 24-hour countdown to the auction of the NFT started at noon PT on Thursday with a starting price of 0.001 ETH. A portion of the proceeds will help the nonprofit organization, Feeding America.
Carrey’s NFT is accompanied by an original philosophical voice-over. The voice-over is a deep, contemplative message ‘ …we are not the image we create, we are the light that shows through it.. That simple sweet light is what people fall in love with.”
The audio also touches upon the existential notion of suffering.
Created directly from acrylic paint tubes, in classic hues of blue-green-yellow “Sunshower” is an animated NFT and is produced in association with filmmaker David Bushell.
The NFT is described as “A sunshower seems like you’re being given a divine gift,” and is called a form of medicine with miraculous regenerative potential. In what seems like a cryptic message, Carrey states that it’s hard to hold onto skepticism while the air around is sparkling like diamonds.
Carrey had already hinted at his NFT interest when he talked about exploring this space and retiring from Hollywood. And his recent purchase of ‘Devotion’ on SuperRare only attested his affirmative views on NFT. So, it was about time that he finally took off the ‘mask’!
The actor who is both a patron of art and technology, has fused the two into his NFT artwork.
Carrey said, “I had merely begun to experiment with bringing my art to life through simple animations when the NFT world opened up, to me there could never be enough new places to create.”
