As ‘decentralization’ continues to secure every sector, ‘Blockchain’ Ticketing has been suggested by the French Government’s Olympics Envoy for the Paris Olympics 2024.
As per reports, the suggestion came after Paris witnessed the ‘ticket fraud’ in the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The alleged ticket fraud in the finals caused a lot of chaotic scenes and even raised questions ‘if Paris is capable of hosting the Olympics 2024’.
Michel Cadot, who is interministerial delegate to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has submitted a 30-page report to the Prime Minister’s Office last week after widespread criticism of the French authorities’ organisation of the final Champion Leagues game.
As a sports delegate, Cadot will connect the various public and private parties responsible for organizing the much-anticipated Paris 2024 Olympic Games and Rugby World Cup 2023. He, however, said that there was a lack of evidence that large-scale ticket fraud was the major reason that caused fiasco at the stadium.
Nevertheless, Cadot also reported that additional members of the public were found without tickets or with fake ones leading to overcrowding. This further delayed entry to the venue spot. Cadot also found that enough transport, signage and security were lacking.
The report concluded with five ‘recommendations’, in which Cadot said that secure and personalised ticketing service that will be used for Paris Olympics to be held in 2024, and it should be brought in at all major international sporting events held in France.
Another recommendation was introduction of non-transferable tickets that will be transferred by the organiser just a few days prior to the event by SMS. The tickets will also consist of a QR code generated using blockchain technology.
These ‘secured tickets’ would only be active within a virtual perimeter and would then correspond to the security perimeter of the site. The tickets in turn would be first checked during pre-filtering. The tickets will then ‘disintegrate’ as soon as the visitor enters the venue site.
The personalisation of tickets will enable ticket holders to receive interactive messages (via digital channels) concerning issues like transport, security and entry to the venue.
Cadot wrote, “These provisions are already planned for the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the Olympics and Paralympics 2024 and practiced by major events such as the French International Tennis.”
Through his recommendations, Cadot also requested the creation of a national committee to pilot major international sporting events.
