OpenSea continues to keep a guard over its seas, as it launches a new security feature that automatically hides suspicious NFT transfers from view. This will prevent NFT thefts and scams.
The official blog from the popular NFT marketplace states that sometimes shady NFT transfers lure a recipient to view an NFT listing that in turn has links to malicious third-party sites.
Unknowingly, holders tend to visit these sites and interact with them. As a result, this can sometimes cause phishing attacks and result in the theft of NFTs from the collector’s wallet.
However, the marketplace categorically mentions that there has not been any case where without any actions from users, a simple NFT transfer can cause malicious activity.
The news comes after OpenSea recently revealed its persistent efforts to prevent scams and frauds.
To fight security menace, the marketplace is introducing three new updates:
- Some NFT transfers will now go to the hidden folder, automatically.
But this could also go wrong like email spam, and some legitimate transfers might be hidden automatically too.
- OpenSea will periodically notify users when they receive a transfer that they hide. One can easily unhide the transfer too with the help of the notification pop-up.
- The Hidden folder comes with filter options: “Hidden by you”, “Auto-hidden”. By default, all hidden items will be shown, but users can filter either of the options as per their need.
These changes have been initiated for all users. OpenSea is still working to improve its algorithms, and users can safely unhide the transfers they were expecting.
