The Blockchain analytics platform Nansen announced its new Web3 venture. It introduced “Nansen Connect”, a messaging app that allows users to log in with a crypto wallet. According to the app’s description, it is a “crypto-native communications hub” for Web3 communities.
Users of Nansen Connect can log in with their crypto wallet through these steps—
- Choose a username based on their Nansen wallet labels.
- Join groups based on crypto holdings and on-chain behaviors.
- Send DMs to other users (encrypted end-to-end).
- Monitor key collection statistics and the user holding information in real-time.
According to the announcement, the social app “will serve as a foundational piece of Web 3’s social layer.”
Nansen Connect users will be able to see an individual’s crypto net worth, as well as the funds in a project’s treasury, or find out if an influencer has dumped token holdings, lowering the risk of scams. Communities will also be able to better filter out noise.
The chats will initially be a single continuous stream or permissioned Announcement channels for selected Nansen label-based communities, such as Smart Money and Blue Chip NFT Holder channels.
The company intends to add sub-channel functionality to Nansen Connect over time.
The Connect Beta version will primarily focus on profile picture (PFP) communities and users, as well as label-based communities and end-to-end encrypted direct messages.
After the BAYC’s Discord server was hit with a 200 Eth ($370K) phishing attack earlier this month, NFT co-creator Gordon Goner tweeted, “Discord isn’t working for Web3 communities. We need a better platform that puts security first.”
Some NFT projects, such as Pudgy Penguins, Hashmasks, KaijuKingz, and CyberKongz, have already confirmed plans to use Nansen Connect as an official community platform.
