The UK government has approved the extradition of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to the United States to face espionage charges. These charges carry a maximum sentence of 175 years in an American prison. Wikileaks has responded, saying that Mr. Assange would appeal against his extradition.
Wikileaks on Twitter wrote – “Today is not the end of the fight. It is only the beginning of a new legal battle. We will appeal through the legal system.”
Home Secretary of the UK Priti Patel signed the extradition order, following a British court ruling in April that wanted Mr. Assange to be sent to the U.S. The long-running legal battle is nearing its end even after the crypto community left no stone unturned to save Julian Assange from extradition.
In March this year, prominent NFT creator Pak collaborated with Julian Assange on a historic NFT collection “Censored”, which was released in two parts, consisting of the Clock (1/1) edition and the Censored unlimited edition.
The concept of the Censored NFT collection speaks volumes about how thoughtfully it has been designed to support and defend Julian in his battle against the unjust legal system.
Julian supporters also created Assange DAO, a community dedicated to fighting for the liberation of Assange.
AssangeDAO has raised 17,422 ETH to bid on the 1/1 Clock NFT which is a part of the “Censored” collection curated by Pak in support of Julian Assange.
The proceeds were dedicated to the Wau Holland Stiftung Foundation, to help Mr. Assange in his legal fees and campaigning to raise awareness about his extradition case.
These strings of events show the overwhelming support from the crypto space, and the news of his extradition has left his supporters disheartened.
With this, we can only say the #FreeAssange movement isn’t over yet. His freedom is tied to all our freedom of expression. Extradition poses a question against the corrupt legal system that’s ashamed of a journalist who did nothing but publish unfiltered truth.
The Crypto community and Julian’s supporters are still intact to spread the word of freedom across the world and to make his story known to all.
