The NFT community and phone maniacs are more hyped than ever as popular tech startup ‘Nothing’ unveils NFTs ahead of its much-anticipated launch of Phone (1) on July 12.
Carl Pei, the co-founder of the smartphone and technology company OnePlus, founded ‘Nothing’. The company has attracted tech inventors such as iPod co-creator Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, and Reddit CEO and co-founder Steve Huffman.
According to the announcement, the project is titled ‘Nothing Community Dots’ with the first NFT project to be called the “Black Dot NFTs”.
“The Black Dot NFTs are now open to be redeemed exclusively by our community investors and anyone who pre-ordered Phone (1),” the post reads.
Nothing is collaborating with the Polygon network to airdrop these NFTs to individuals who invested in Nothing’s debut as well as those who pre-ordered phones.
The Black Dot NFTs will provide the holders additional rewards such as early access to products or entry into events.
Arjun Kalsy, Vice President of Growth Polygon stated that the goal is to integrate payments, features like Polygon ID, the company’s zero-knowledge, proof-based identity system, and easy access to apps and games on Polygon’s platform into the Android-based Nothing Phone (1).
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal added, “immensely encouraging to see an innovator like Nothing embrace Web3 from the get-go, enabling direct access to Web3 by working with Polygon.”
Polygon and Nothing have been working on this for the past four to five months, defining ideas like how users should be able to access Polygon’s dapps and games on mobile and how the project might develop over time.
Registration is open to members of the Nothing community until August 12 at 23:59 BST. The airdrop will take place between July 7th at 22:00 BST and August 13th at 10:00 BST.
Registrations for Nothing phone (1)’s pre-order customers begin on July 12 at 00:00 BST and will continue until August 12 at 23:59 BST. The airdrops will take place between July 12 at 22:00 BST and August 13 at 10:00 BST.
Members of the community who have also pre-ordered the Nothing phone (1) just need to register once to receive two Black Dot NFTs, which will be airdropped separately.
The first 10 Black Dot NFT owners from the Nothing community will have the opportunity to win unique invitations to the Nothing phone (1) launch in London.
Polygon is the second network to dive into the world of smartphones after the Solana blockchain. Last month Solana announced the drop of ‘Saga’ the first Web3 android smartphone with pre-orders currently open with delivery beginning in early 2023.
And ahead of Nothing, last month smartphone manufacturer HTC launched crypto and NFT compatible smartphones which are also designed to be compatible with its metaverse platform, Viverse.
Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei noted, “With Nothing Community Dots, we’re using Web3 technologies to create more meaningful connections with our community By partnering with Polygon, a leader in blockchain innovation, we’re delivering an accessible, and importantly, a more sustainable Web3 experience.”
