Famed satirical comedy show, ‘South Park’ takes shots at the crypto industry in its latest episode ‘The Streaming Wars Part 2’. The episode features Hollywood celebrities who have promoted or supported crypto such as Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon.
The episode mostly focuses on Matt Damon’s advert for Crypto.com, in which he tells viewers that “fortune favors the brave” and compares crypto investors to arctic explorers, the Wright brothers, and astronauts.
South Park parodies this ad shot for shot except instead of crypto, Matt Damon is shown advertising recycled water.
“We are living in a severe drought. There simply isn’t a choice anymore. We have to find alternate sources for water. Hi, I’m Matt Damon,” says Damon in the recycled water parody ad.
“You’ve heard me talk about the wonders of cryptocurrency and now there’s a company that can give us that new source: Pipi Water!”
The episode then features Damon gagging as he attempts to water his lawn in urine, shower in it, eat pasta boiled in it, and enjoy a nice cold pint of it with his Whopper burger.
Naomi Osaka, who endorses FTX is shown trying to chow down on pee-soaked salad greens, while Larry David from Curb Your Enthusiasm enjoys his “favorite beverage” directly from a nearby offscreen source.
The episode does not forget NFT-endorsing celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon.
Witherspoon’s parody commercial features her saying, “I’m Reese Witherspoon. I think crypto’s a great idea, but there’s one investment that’s even smarter. That’s why when my family’s enjoying festive party games, we do it in pee!”
It then goes on to show Witherspoon apple bobbing in a tub filled with the urine of two men and floating apples.
South Park is best known for its hilarious and satirical takes on current events. The show first mentioned crypto at the end of last year. With the traction that the crypto industry has been getting, I doubt this is the last time we will hear of this industry on the show.
