The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs’ creators, Yuga Labs, have announced the end of the tech demo. The first trip in the Otherside Metaverse has come to a conclusion, and Yuga Labs has also released publicly a litepaper that outlines the central principles of the platform.
Otherside Metaverse “First Trip”
Around 4,500 people hopped on to take the “first trip” tech demo of the Otherside Metaverse project. The most awaited first trip took place on July 16 and was accessible to Otherdeed NFT land owners, known as Voyagers.
The Otherside voyagers entered a blank virtual lobby as avatars and then followed a giant Bored Ape through a colorful portal into the Otherside Metaverse.
It’s worth mentioning that the voyagers have explored the location Biogenic Swamp, a centrally located stadium in the metaverse where they tested out the avatar dynamics such as running, dancing, emojis and jumping.
Interestingly, there were a few other selected areas and environments which featured giant creatures strolling around attacking voyagers if they got too close.
According to Yuga Labs, in the early testing phases of the project, only Otherdeed owners and third-party developers would be able to access the Otherside.
This way, voyagers can provide critical feedback on the platform and essential aspects such as in-game building tools and software development kits.
The Otherside Litepaper
After a successful first trip, Yuga Labs published a ‘litepaper’ describing the principles behind Otherside metaverse and how the project will unfold moving forward. Three phases have been disclosed in the document, however, the first one has been elaborated on so far.
The first phase will include an 11-part story-themed game mode weaved around “mysterious Obelisk” that appeared in Otherside. The game mode will also offer users to explore what can be crafted, traded, bought, sold, and harvested in the game.
As per the litepaper, Voyagers will play a vital role in shaping the core capabilities of the platform through interactive and exclusive events, playtesting opportunities, and co-developers of Otherside Development Kits (ODKs).
Otherside metaverse is based on a community-first approach, ‘genuine’ asset ownership, and interoperability that will leverage the support of other NFT projects as well. Later as the project develops, we could also see incentives being included along with support such as education, leadership, and experience from well-known partnered entities.
