The Brazilian professional UFC fighter Luana Pinheiro, announced that she has collaborated with Bitwage to receive her salary in Bitcoin (BTC). She continues receiving payments in fiat from her sponsors but converts them to BTC immediately through Bitwage.
After being motivated by Pinheiro’s boyfriend and fellow mixed martial artist Matheus Nicolau, she chose to receive her salary in Bitcoin.
Ironically she compares Bitcoin with her fighting style, jiu-jitsu, and also insists on being paid in Bitcoins while ignoring the volatility of the cryptocurrency.
Launa Pinheiro, stated, “Think upon it, it takes an average of 10–15 years for an individual to obtain a black belt in Brazil in Jiu Jitsu, so my time preference here is just as long, if not longer. Everything else is just noise to me and the lower the price, the more Bitcoin I can secure for the future.”
Born in the early years of the Brazilian Real, which was introduced in 1994 and is today fixed at 5 BRL to 1 USD, the UFC fighter remarks “Bitcoin is for that, to defend against inflation”.
Bitcoins work as a hedge against inflation while it has an upward trend in regards with the corrective measures even through the years the purchasing power of Fiat currencies have deteriorated with inflation.
