The ex-legal counsel of Pantera Capital, Joseph Cisewski, is the CFTC’s new Chief of Staff (CoS) and Sr. Legal Counsel. Christy Goldsmith Romero, the commissioner, made the announcement. Per Commissioner Romero, Joseph Cisewski’s digital assets experience spanning over 14 years is the key reason that warrants the hire.
Joseph Cisewski’s digital assets experience spans across public service and public interest roles. His legal stints include the ones at the CFTC, the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), and Pantera Capital—a $5.1 billion asset under management (AUM) company with 100 venture investments.
“Joe’s unique combination of public and private sector experiences will serve us well as we take bold steps to ensure the resilience of our markets, protect investors and market participants. His fluency on digital-assets and other issues will be valuable as the Technology Advisory Committee embarks on its agenda later this year,” says commissioner Romero.
Before CFTC, Joseph Cisewski steered, as Pantera Capital’s General Counsel, coordinated its portfolio corporations with the regulators. Joseph Cisewski’s previous CFTC stint had him serve as CFTC’s Co-Chief of Staff and Co-Chief Operating Officer.
