The bankrupt crypto lending firm, Celsius warned its depositors about potential phishing attacks after it was confirmed that one of the employees accountable for data management and messaging to its clients has leaked emails with client details.
Celsius revealed that the employee who leaked crucial client data to a third party is an engineer at the Customer.io messaging platform. After the incident came into focus, the firm fired that employee from the company.
“We were recently informed by our vendor Customer.io that one of their employees accessed a list of Celsius client email addresses” said Celsius in its email to customers.
However, this is not the first time when data incursion has been reported on the DeFi platform. In June, top-notch NFT platform, OpenSea also warned its users by issuing guidelines about email breaches.
Celsius has tried to calm down clients’ panic about incidents and ensured that it does not “present any high risks to our clients”. The purpose behind the announcement is just to make users aware of potential phishing scams.
Earlier, Customer.io stated in a blog post that “We know this was a result of the deliberate actions of a senior engineer who had an appropriate level of access to perform their duties and provided these email addresses to the bad actor.”
The firm didn’t disclose the exact number of emails leaked as well as the platform used for this misconduct.
Last year, Celsius users also fell into the phishing attack situation as multiple websites pretended to be official Celsius platforms and tried to deceive its users. Some of these fake websites also sent SMS and Emails to users to steal essential data.
