The professional soccer club Crawley Town F.C. announces signing midfielder Jayden Davis via a fan, community, and NFT holders’ vote on Discord. Davis’ signing is on a free transfer basis following appropriate club-level trials.
The 1,000 season ticket holders also voiced their preference in the votes.
The NFT holders and fans’ participation in the voting to select the next team recruit of their choice offers the fans a say in the club.
Crawley Town F.C. co-owner Preston Johnson says, “A lot of NFT projects are just speculation with no real tangible spine, no real true story. Having a football club to root for every week? That’s a spine that people attach themselves to.”
On the potential of connecting the Cryptoverse with the audience and the world of football for real, Johnson says, “If we can bring that to this crypto audience, especially if we’re able to actually achieve promotion and move up the ranks of the English football league, then it’s an even bigger story people all around the world can be part of.”
The trade in question will belong to Crawley Town’s League Two (or English professional league’s fourth tier).

US-based crypto and web3 company WAGMI United purchased Crawley Town in April for approximately $20 million. WAGMI is reportedly aiming to take Crawley Town to the level of Liverpool F.C. and Manchester City in the English Premier League (EPL).
WAGMI United is also reported to have released ‘alternate team jerseys’ (bought only via NFTs) for Crawley Town F.C. in June. The tokens offer fans crucial features, such as voting on player transfers, physical and virtual events attendance, and free Adidas merchandise.
