The Metaverse is rising with each passing day. Singaporean MP signals metaverse as a potential marriages, court cases, and government services’ venue.
“It would not be unthinkable that, besides registration of marriages, other government services can soon be accessed online via the Metaverse,” says Mr. Edwin Tong SC, Singapore’s Second Minister for Law, at TechLaw Fest 2022.
In regards to delivering legal services in the metaverse, Mr. Edwin Tong SC says, “no reason why the same cannot be done for legal services.”
“The pandemic has already shown us that even dispute resolution — once seen to be a physical, high-touch process […] can also be held almost entirely online,” adds the Second Minister for Law.
He explained an example of a legal dispute pertaining to a construction site accident. It can be viewed in a metaverse setting via AR on a “single virtual platform” in three-dimensions.
“You can put yourself into the actual tunnel or the oil containment facility to look at the construction dispute from the perspective of an augmented reality, representing the actual space,” says Mr. Edwin Tong SC.
Singapore’s Second Minister for Law, although, didn’t undermine the vitality of the offline setting. He says “there can always be a hybrid element.”
