The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has shown deep concerns about the Tornado Cash ban and has joined the crypto community in advocating digital privacy. The EFF has come forward to defend Tornado Cash against the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to issue sanctions to ban American citizens from using the crypto mixer.
EFF presented its argument in a tweet that said, EFF is deeply concerned that the U.S. Treasury Department has included Tornado Cash, an open source computer project, on its list of sanctioned individuals.
The organization went on to say code has long been acknowledged as speech, so there are clear First Amendment implications whenever the government prevents the publication of computer code on a public website. The EFF is a venerated digital rights organization founded over three decades ago and tracks blockchain developments and regulatory efforts.
