One of YouTube’s most popular crypto influencers ‘BitBoy Crypto’ sued another social media personality ‘Atozy’ for defamation and for calling him a scammer w.r.t promoting an offbeat cryptocurrency and claiming damages in excess of $75,000.
Ben Armstrong, also known as BitBoy Crypto, claims that Erling Mengshoel Jr., a.k.a. Atozy’s commentary video in which Armstrong discusses a cryptocurrency called Pamp is an attack on his livelihood.
Armstrong, according to Atozy, is “not someone you should be looking up to for any advice whatsoever” when it comes to cryptocurrency advice.
Armstrong filed a complaint and a jury demand against Mengshoel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta for “defamation (…), intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, tortious interference with business relations (…), and violation of the fair business practices act.”
The complaint specifically refers to Mengshoel referring to Armstrong in a November 9, 2021 video as a “shady dirtbag who milks his audience for a quick buck rather than giving them genuine advice.”
In the video, Mengshoel aka Atozy also stated that regulators were likely to investigate such promotions, saying, “it’s basically inevitable the SEC is going to get involved because dirtbags like this cannot resist the urge to take that quick buck and just milk their audience for some extra money.”
However, there is a disagreement between what Armstrong claims in his lawsuit and what he states online in his disclaimers.
“Can there be a more damaging assertion for someone like BitBoy Crypto, who engages in the business of providing advice and commentary on cryptocurrency investments?” the lawsuit asks.
BitBoy revealed on Twitter in June about his class action lawsuit against Celsius after the network reportedly hired restructuring lawyers specialized in preparing businesses for bankruptcy.
