The world’s leading derivatives exchange CME Group has announced plans to launch Ether future options on September 12. The new contracts will be based on the CME CF Ether-Dollar Reference Rate, which will deliver one contract at 50 ether per contract.
The CME group’s existing Ether futures have traded more than 1.8 million contracts till date. Tim McCourt, Global Head of Equity and FX Products, CME Group said, “As we approach the highly anticipated Ethereum Merge next month, we continue to see market participants turn to CME Group to manage ether price risk.”
The new futures options will offer CME customers greater flexibility and added precision to manage their ether exposure ahead of market moving events.

CME Group’s existing suite crypto options contract includes Bitcoin options, micro-sized Bitcoin and Ether options.
The Ether futures trading highlights of July records an average daily volume of 7.9K contracts, and open interest of 3.9K contracts.
