While we wait for the much-anticipated “The Merge” software upgrade for Ethereum, co-founder Vitalik Buterin tweeted about the superiority of cryptocurrency payments, emphasizing their convenience.
Buterin believes that it is not just censorship resistance that makes cryptocurrencies “superior,” but that they are often “underrated” when compared to fiat currencies.
“Big boost to international business and charity, and sometimes even payments within countries,” he tweeted.
The war in Ukraine is a prime example of crypto transactions’ utility in this regard, with Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov tweeting on August 18 that the nonprofit and activist group Aid For Ukraine alone had raised $54 million.

At the Korea Blockchain Week 2022, Vitalik was also spotted discussing his thoughts on cryptocurrency payments and how quickly he expects them to grow.
He stated that such transactions are not available to people in low-income countries, “Many people around the world are quietly using crypto for international payments already. For lower-income countries, a lot of opportunities for crypto payments lie ahead as well, which have the benefits of digital technology — efficiency and safety.”
