The National Police of Ukraine (NPU) successfully busted a network of crypto fraudsters running fake “call centers”. The call centers were allegedly targeting Ukrainian and European Union citizens who had been prey to crypto scams as per the statement by NPU.
The bogus crypto center offered to aid those citizens who had been affected by crypto scams and also recommended investment packages in crypto, gold, oil, and other securities.
The police further informed that the employees of call centers presented themselves as employees of the state banking institutions using websites and exchanges and extorted private data of citizens’ bank cards.
The scammers also reportedly tried getting funds from foreign citizens by guaranteeing a return of huge profits in a short time.

Moreover, the victims of previous crypto scams were told to pay a commission for victims retrieving any lost funds. After the naive victims paid the fee, “communication with the ‘brokers’ was interrupted and payments were not made,” reported the police.
The cybercriminals’ devices like computers, phones, and data storage systems were confiscated and the call center’s members have been charged with “fraud committed on a particularly large scale or by an organized group.”
The NPU has also charged the scammers with using harmful software, thus, adding up to 12 years in prison.
