After 12 weeks of the Bitcoin education program at the Bitcoin Academy, Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey have airdropped $1000 in Bitcoin to all the participants who opted to receive a grant.
As per reports, the Bitcoin gift was a last-minute surprise and was reportedly made through Cash App, Muun Wallet or other self-custodial wallets.
The education program including the final airdrop was personally funded by Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey. Even though, there has been no information as to how many people received the airdrop, Jay’s mother in an email revealed that over 350 Marcy residents attended the program.
She wrote, “Marcy residents showed up”. She also revealed that the programme also provided the necessary facilities like dinner, childcare, devices, internet access, dedicated staff and instructors that attracted many people who could participate in person and online.
The programme taught courses like “Why Decentralization Matters”, “Bitcoin & Taxes”, “Wealth Building and Assets”, “Staying Safe from Scammers” and “Careers in Crypto” among others. All of the courses were recorded and were made available online but only for Marcy residents.
The program was launched in early June for the residents of Marcy Houses, New York, where Jay Z grew up.
