Legendary late actor Heath Ledger who immortalized ‘The Joker’ on screen is set to be commemorated 14 years after his passing with his rare and unseen images getting sold as NFTs.
The limited edition NFTs, taken by photographer Ben Watts, whose sister Naomi Watts dated Ledger from 2002 to 2004, will include private and rarely seen photographs.
A fine art print, signed by Ben, or an exclusive print magazine with the compiled, never-before-seen pictures, will be given to winning bidders in addition to the NFT, which will be available today at 12 pm ET.
The Heath Ledger Foundation, founded following Ledger’s passing, would profit from the sale’s proceeds to give scholarships to up-and-coming Australian actors.
Watts also mentioned how actively involved the Brokeback Mountain star was with the entire photography process.
This is Ben Watts’ debut in the NFT space. “This body of work is one of my most favorite. I’m late to this game,” he noted.
The Oscar award-winning actor is seen skateboarding and doing handstands, in a shoot with the caption: “Heath at LA River for Interview Magazine. He loved to skate and surf so the session became more of a fun day rather than a shoot.”
Another photo from the collection is titled “No Permit”, which depicts the story of Ledger and Ben sneaking into the photo location.
“Spontaneous moments at LA River. Heath and Ben did not have a permit to be there and just ‘found’ a way in,” the caption notes.
The world was devastated when Heath Ledger passed away from an accidental drug overdose on January 22, 2008. The actor, who was only 28 years old, was at the apex of his success.
