The leading digital property rights firm Animoca Brands announced the acquisition of WePlay Media, the developer of popular blockchain-game MotoGP Championship Quest. The acquisition is made in the direction of boosting user engagement in motorsports.
As per the official statement, the acquisition which is an ‘all cash transaction’ was announced at the MotoGP Gran Premio Animoca Brands de Aragón, for which Animoca Brands is the title sponsor.
Following the acquisition, the COO of WePlay Media, Graeme Warring will continue to lead WePlay Media and will head MotoGP™ projects and will work with Animoca Brands’ REVV Motorsport team, to operate the blockchain game MotoGP Ignition.
With the acquisition of WePlay Media, Animoca Brands will strengthen its existing relationship with Dorna Sports as a sponsor, NFT licensor, collectible cards provider, and blockchain game developer and publisher.
Both Animoca Brands and WePlay Media will adopt the REVV ecosystem with WePlay Media’s products to bring in more play-and-earn opportunities. The firms will build on existing partnerships, and also team up with others to improve fan engagement.
Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, remaked, “The acquisition of WePlay Media will boost our engagement with fans of the amazing sport of MotoGP, unlocking powerful exposure in both the metaverse and traditional gaming.”
Siu added that with this deal, the firm can implement the Web3 strategy to integrate the motorsport-based REVV Token and NFT programs with the MotoGP mobile game.
