The open source NFT standard and protocol Metaplex is all set to launch its MPLX token to Solana NFT creators and also decentralize its governance through a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
Metaplex’s MPLX token will drop today, and NFT creators who used the Solana protocol are eligible to get a yet-unrevealed allotment of tokens.
However, the only condition here is that United States residents are not eligible for the airdrop. It is probably due to regulatory concerns in the country. The drop will initially be listed on FTX, KuCoin, and Huobi international.
The utility token will be used to launch a DAO and hence, MPLX token holders will be able to vote on governance proposals in matters related to the NFT protocol.
Metaplex tweeted, “MPLX holders will steer the direction of the protocol through the Metaplex DAO, delivering on the promise of a decentralized and community-owned creator platform.”
Note that additionally, Metaplex also said that creators of projects that were deemed “rug pulls” will be filtered out of the airdrop. The company revealed that it enlisted digital asset compliance firm TRM Labs to help it remove such projects from the token airdrop.
