As Formula One continues to look for new ways to engage fans, McLaren Racing will run with a modified cyberpunk-inspired ‘Future Mode’ livery for the Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix as part of a collaboration with team partner crypto exchange OKX.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown stated that F1’s ability to race in the important Asian market for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic struck was something worth going above and beyond for.
“McLaren and OKX are united in driving ahead and constantly striving to break boundaries, and the Future Mode campaign is an opportunity to champion these values together on our global stage” he said.
The livery will appear on McLaren’s MCL36 F1 cars as the two companies expand their partnership. The new livery adds neon pink embellishments and cyberpunk-inspired engine illustrations to the car’s usual color scheme of papaya.
The crypto-inspired look “represents the emergence of new technologies from the region, with a look to the future inspired by the cityscapes of Singapore and Japan” according to the Formula 1 team.
During the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix (30 September-2 October) and 2022 Japanese Grand Prix (7 October-9 October) race weekends, McLaren F1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo’s race suits will also reflect the livery.
In May of this year, the Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange OKX announced a partnership with F1 McLaren Racing to become the team’s official main partner.
OKX Chief Marketing Officer Haider Rafique said, “It was incredibly fun for us and McLaren to co-design the livery for Asia. This new livery signals the arrival of bold new technology. The cyberpunk design we created celebrates the influence of Web3 on popular culture.”
According to the official statement, OKX is aiming to introduce new fans to Formula 1 by maximizing its innovative and engaging capabilities through Web3, with a commitment to guiding McLaren in revolutionizing the team’s digital collectible and metaverse strategy.
Thus, fans will be able to purchase a limited-edition McLaren Racing x OKX Future Mode t-shirt through the McLaren Store. Additionally, the Future Mode livery change will be reflected in the F1 22 video game, which will be available on October 11 for fans to use in-game and race themselves.
